Kenneth R. Gilvary, M.S., P.E.

I have always had a passion for problem solving and teaching; so, it is no wonder that I became an engineer.

Kenneth R. Gilvary, M.S., P.E.After spending a childhood disassembling everything I could get my hands on, I earned a place at the Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Engineering Research Center at Lehigh University.

It was here where I applied my thirst for knowledge to real-world structures including buildings, bridges, and navy-ships. At ATLSS, we froze, burned, crushed, and ripped apart full-scale test components of all kinds of building materials, all in the name of science. It was exciting work, and we used the data from these tests to better understand structural performance under real life conditions. We also studied how to better predict and improve performance, and how to design repairs when failures occur.

After earning my Master of Science Degree from Lehigh University, I worked as a design engineer on numerous projects including stadiums, office buildings, convention centers, amusement parks, schools, theaters, and other structures. I gravitated toward the problem-solving aspects of engineering fieldwork, which led to a career in forensic engineering.

In forensics, we have the opportunity to use our training, experience, and skills to evaluate all kinds of things including hurricanes, tornados, hailstorms, floods, leaks, fires, explosions, earthquake, vibration, vehicular impacts, construction defects, accidents, product failures, overloads, misuse, moisture sources, and normal service conditions. We are constantly looking to learn more about these subjects and share that knowledge with the rest of the industry.

There is a rewarding feeling of satisfaction that accompanies every file we work with in helping our clients understand the answers to their questions so that they can move forward with confidence.
